Ames Christian University Launches Online Degree Programs
Naples, FL, July 11, 2002 — Offering education that it calls “relevant, challenging, Christian,” Ames Christian University has opened in Naples, Florida and on the Web. The school will offer a Bachelors degree and a Masters degree, and is now accepting applications from new learners for both programs.
The school’s degrees are authorized by the State of Florida. The university has been approved by the Florida Board of Independent Education to offer a Bachelor of Christian Arts and a Master of Liberal Arts, according to Todd Wieland, Ames Christian’s president.
“The Bachelors degree will offer concentrations in Christian Doctrine, Christian Education and Christian Service,” Wieland says. “The Doctrine program has specialized tracks in Humanities, Philosophy, and Economics. In the Service programs, specialized tracks are devoted to Ministry Leadership, Evangelism, and Youth Pastor. The Education program offers specialties in K-12 Education and in Home Schooling.”
“The Masters program is a unique blend of arts, sciences, and social science,” Wieland continues. “We think of it as an ‘honest seeker’s pursuit of the truth.’ The premise is that an honest pursuit of the truth via the arts, sciences, and the social sciences will reveal God’s presence and purpose in the universe.”
Wieland says that Ames Christian will offer learners advantages in flexibility and cost. “As a distance learning institution, we offer our courses on the Web, so learners can pursue their degrees from anywhere in the world. Also, since we don’t have to pay for classrooms and dorms, we are able to offer excellent education at a reduced cost, compared to many institutions.”
The school charges $198 for an undergraduate course, and $299 for a graduate course. Wieland says that Ames Christian also takes its commitment to provide challenging, relevant education very seriously.
“Our purpose is to challenge learners, and to teach them in turn to challenge their times,” he says. “We think it’s crucial that Christians not ‘check their brains’ when they pick up their faith.”
“Our programming is designed to be particularly friendly to home school families, and to learners who want a deeper experience from their degree pursuits,” Wieland continues. “As online programs, our degrees can be earned anywhere with basic Internet access, and we have no minimum age requirements.”
According to its Web site (www.ameschristian.org), Ames Christian requires a high school diploma (or equivalent) for admission to the Bachelors program and a Bachelors degree for the Masters program.
Wieland encourages interested learners to read the school’s Statement of Doctrine and its Ames Code before completing an application for admission. Both are available at the Web site.
“Although our programs feature Christian concentrations, we’re not a ‘bible college’ in the traditional sense, ” Wieland says. “What we aim to do is to explore knowledge in the light of truth, and to explore truth in the light of knowledge. We think this kind of an approach makes for an exciting and powerful educational experience.”
